The future of research can be greatly enhanced by public funding initiatives like a semi-postal stamp. The Breast Cancer Research Stamp proved to be a successful campaign which has provided funding for research, screening programs and awareness materials. These stamps sell for higher than normal first-class postage and the funds are directed to a government agency for the benefit of the public.
We have identified 15 Institutes and Centers that could be receipients of funding and are asking your support by contacting your members of Congress to have this introduced as legislation. The final decision to award this stamp is up to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and our hope is that it provides funding to offset budget cuts and rates of inflation.
A Grassroots effort to pursue, promote and puchase a stamp that benefits "The Campaign For The Brain" and makes the Silver or Grey Ribbon widely recognized translates into sales and funding that cannot be realized by each individual organization. Traumatic Brain Injury now is the primary injury suffered by our Veterans and with the ReAuthorization of The Traumatic Brain Injury Act, programs expansion needs funding.
Most areas in the United States do not have access to multidisciplinary centers but may benefit from the exisiting infrastructure of brain injury programs and specialists. Strengthening this infrastructure will benefit all those affected by brain diseases, disorders or injuries.
