Hello there! I am Savannah Rae Houston, a Miss South Carolina Teen contestant. As a girl of the age of sixteen, I never thought that I would be meeting so many people and making a difference in my community. I would have never had this opportunity if it weren't for the Miss South Carolina Palmetto Princess Program and what it challenged me to do when I was twelve years old. I am so grateful for the experiences that I have had through the program and now as a result of the rewards and incentives program that Miss Gail gave us. What I am truly grateful for, is the gift of seeing my Dad so excited about something again and knowing that I was a part of it. I would like to experience these amazing things again this year as Miss Carolina Foothills Teen, and with your help it is entirely possible! |

The Brain Tumor Awareness Organization began as a simple website of resources for those affected by brain tumors but in 2006 when I met all of the incentives presented by Miss Gail for Palmetto Princesses, the organization officially launched as a result of the 16 Recognition Pages that I obtained sponsors for. Those pages were part of The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Pageant Program book which went into the hands of community members from across the state!
Since then, The Brain Tumor Awareness Organization became a 501 ( c) 3 non-profit organization and the sole organization serving brain tumor patients and their families in South Carolina. Approximately 740 South Carolina families are affected by brain tumors.
The Brain Tumor Awareness Organization was able to serve 85% of the annual brain tumor population in South Carolina with patient resources backpacks in 2009 through community-supported funding. |

My first experience with Miss America 2006, Jennifer Berry was at the Miss America Pajama Party held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was very special to meet such an inspirational woman whose talent was just like mine...ballet! I will never forget how sweet and personable she was...I hope that I will be an inspiration to others as well! |

Thanks to this program, I earned my first educational scholarship at 12 years of age for 452 hours of community service. In 2009, I was awarded my 2nd Presidential Volunteer Service Award and this year, I will be receiving The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Next year as a Junior at Travelers Rest High School, I will begin taking college courses in pursuit of a medical degree. I am thankful for The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Program for making my dreams come true! |
